Course Summary

This is a 2-day course for a total of 10.5 contact hours.  Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will learn how to evaluate and treat clients with urological and gastrointestinal disorders as well as gain invaluable tools to start bowel and bladder programs at their facility. Objectives

  • Define and distinguish the 5 types of urinary incontinence.
  • Describe at least 1 non-pharmacological treatment intervention for each type of incontinence.
  • Describe at least 3 adaptive tools or assistive technology to increase independence with bladder management and appropriate use of each.
  • Name the three categories of urinary catheters and verbalize clinical reasoning for selecting each type.
  • Identify the key structures and role of the digestive system.
  • Identify the common causes of fecal incontinence and choose appropriate treatment intervention for each form of fecal incontinence.
  • Identify two adaptive tools or assistive technology to increase independence with bowel program.
  • Select appropriate treatment intervention for each type of fecal diversion.
