Course Summary

Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will learn how to evaluate and treat clients with gastrointestinal disorders as well as gain invaluable tools to start bowel programs at their facility. The course will start by providing a comprehensive review of the anatomy and physiology as it relates to the digestive system. This will provide a solid foundation for understanding why and how to treat clients with fecal incontinence using a holistic, client-centered approach. Attendees will learn evidenced based treatment interventions for the most common bowel disorders as well as occupation-based interventions for individuals with fecal diversions.

  • Identify two adaptive tools or assistive technology to increase independence with bowel program.
  • Select appropriate treatment intervention for each type of fecal diversion.
